START WITH THE DECISION

A practical starting point.

Decide what to keep only after comparing each large piece with its destination room and the route into it. Work room by room, record uncertain measurements and delay replacement purchases until those uncertainties are resolved. A complete shopping list is not the same as a workable move plan.

A 1.50 × 0.60 m wardrobe (4.92 × 1.97 ft) and a 1.50 × 2.10 m bed (4.92 × 6.89 ft) may fit within a bedroom outline while competing for the same door-opening or standing space. Record both closed footprints and what happens in use. Delivery, assembly height and any permitted wall fixings remain separate from the floor-plan drawing.

Choose the question you need to answer.

  1. Before packing ↗

Make a room-by-room inventory with maximum external sizes. Mark each item as keep, remeasure, compare or replace rather than buying all missing pieces immediately.

  2. Before booking delivery ↗

Check the shared entrance, lifts, stairs, turns and final doorway against the particular product and package. Supplier guidance matters for uncertain routes.

  3. Before committing to a rental layout ↗

Measure fixed features and record the installation restrictions that apply to your home. Keep movable arrangements separate from proposed fixings or building changes.

Can I rely on a property listing floor plan?

Use it as an orientation aid until you verify the dimensions, openings and fixed constraints on site. Listings can omit the details that decide whether your furniture works. Save your verified notes with your own plan and keep an editable backup before changing devices.

Worked dimensions are illustrative. Plans use wall centerlines; check finished inside measurements, product instructions and the real room. These notes do not certify construction, accessibility or every walking route.
